Meet Mats Storm, Service Coordinator

Mød Mats Storm, Service Koordinator

When Mats Storm joined Schou as a temp in 2022 and started repairing lawnmowers, he didn’t expect that just three months later, he would be offered a permanent position — and today play a key role in the Service Department. But thanks to his curiosity, sense of responsibility, and eye for improvements, he quickly became an indispensable part of the team.

Mats brings a unique background. As a former IT supporter in the Air Force, he helped develop advanced communication equipment for NATO — including a fully equipped server container with satellite connection, which was flown to Sicily during the war in Libya. From there, a no-fly zone was established, and communication between divisions and units was maintained.

After his time in the military, Mats continued his career at both Proshop and Bestseller in Malaga. A common thread throughout his career is his ability to find solutions, spot opportunities, and bring order to complexity.

"I never imagined I’d still be here after three years, but my manager Jesper Kølbek has given me responsibility and seen my potential. It means a lot to work at a place where you're not just expected to do things the usual way but are encouraged to bring ideas forward and see them implemented."

When claims require both systems and empathy

Today, Mats spends most of his time handling claims — an area where both technical insight and people skills are essential.

"We haven’t done our job well enough if there are never any complaints about a rejected claim," he says honestly.

But claims are only part of his role. Mats is also deeply involved in improving and modernizing internal systems — something that truly sparks his passion:

"Many processes are a bit old-fashioned, and it's great to be part of optimizing and making things smarter. That’s what drives me!"

A stronger team spirit — and the Friday "mandatory soda"

When the Service Department moved into its new offices in Vision Park in 2023, Mats and his colleagues experienced a clear boost — not just in their surroundings, but also in the team atmosphere.

"It felt like going from scrap to a castle," he laughs.

Fridays often end with an informal gathering in the department — a tradition Mats jokingly calls "mandatory soda," as a playful jab at his manager. The warm tone and strong sense of camaraderie mean a lot to him.

"I’m actually quite introverted and get most of my social needs met at work. When I get home, I enjoy the peace and quiet. But I really value my colleagues — we also meet up outside of work, for example to go on pub crawls."

A place to land — and give something back

Before joining Schou, life was sometimes a bit turbulent, but today Mats has found both stability and direction.

"At some point, I’d like to help young people and give something back — maybe through volunteer work."

With his distinctive gold tooth, tattoos, and sharp understanding of both people and systems, Mats has become a very special part of Schou. A great example of what can happen when you’re given responsibility — and grow with it.
