Meet Jacob, Team Leader of DK Domestic Shipping at our Vision Park warehouse,
“We have 200,000 m2 of space at our new Vision Park warehouse and nearly all our goods have been moved here. The new high storage facility is also now in use, and it is really exciting to see how quickly the pallets can be moved around in there - without any people! I am also really looking forward to us all being together under one roof; this will be a huge win for our little family, which has actually become a big family.”
Jacob started at Schou way back in 2004, as a temp in the Børkop warehouse, emptying containers. He then moved on to the packing department for some years until starting at our Vojens warehouse in 2011. So, with broad experience gained in our various warehouses, the way was paved for the position of Team Leader, DK Domestic Shipping, and in December 2022 he and his colleagues moved to our brand new Vision Park warehouse. There are about 20 employees in Jacob’s department, and about 130-140 in total at the warehouse.
“The company have just put me through a Warehouse and Logistics Operator course, and I am really thankful for that. It’s great to learn new skills and to be able to implement them at work. I love putting new ideas into action and optimising processes. In fact, I have become a bit of a nerd, shaving 5-10 seconds off a task and so saving time and money.”
Jacob starts work at 6 am with a smile on his face, and spends the first hour at the computer, looking at the orders and checking the shipments for Greenland, Iceland and the Faeroe Islands. The rest of the day is spent around the warehouse, where he helps out where he can, solves challenges, corrects any mistakes and dispatches goods. The number of pallets is calculated daily, and the information forwarded to the haulier. The average is 500 pallets per day for DK Domestic.
“We can choose to work a 4-day week; it is really flexible. But, as Team Leader, I prefer to be here every day. I love my colleagues, there is a great atmosphere, and there are lots of different nationalities. It works really well, and we have an exceptional ability to have fun together. The facilities here at the new warehouse are excellent, everything is brand new with a lovely staff restaurant where we can get together. Then there is the Friday bar, an indoor padel court, and there are plans for a gym. It is also great that an occasional ice cream van comes by, or we are served pancakes, as a reward for doing well. This is really good for staff morale, and it needn’t be expensive.”
