Environment and footprint

We protect the environment and climate by minimising our footprint

At Schou, we recognise the challenges associated with increasing climate change and we are committed to taking our share of responsibility for a greener future by minimising our negative impact on the environment and climate.

One of our focus areas is to reduce the amount of greenhouse gases from the emissions we can control ourselves. In addition, we are continuously working on environmental improvements in our logistics processes to ensure that we transport our goods as optimally and efficiently as possible, for the benefit of our planet.

As part of this, we are moving our warehouse and administration to Vision Park in Kolding, a 43.5 hectare business park developed according to sustainable principles with respect for nature.

It is Denmark's largest commercial construction project and will be the first of its kind to achieve Gold certification according to the internationally recognised and holistic DGBN standard. The construction will take comprehensive account of environmental, social and economic sustainability, with a focus on avoiding environmentally hazardous substances and limiting greenhouse gas emissions.

Vision Park will be a scenic area with a focus on wild nature. A lake will be established and there will be path systems so that people can move around the area.
The area will also be open to the public so that visitors, citizens and tourists can enjoy nature and biodiversity in the park.

Amfori BEPI
- environmental improvements
in the supply chain

As the largest part of our environmental impact is in the value chain itself,
we work with our suppliers to ensure environmental improvements at their
factories. It's an important journey that we would never achieve on our own.
That is why we have decided to be part of Amfori's environmental initiative
BEPI, to ensure that our suppliers produce our products with the greatest
possible respect for the climate and the environment.

BEPI collects data for the individual factories and looks at parameters such
as energy and water consumption, CO² emissions, etc. and they help the
individual factories to reduce their environmental impact by making
continuous improvements for the benefit of both their own business and
our planet.

We continuously monitor our supply chain and collaborate on improvements.

COOPERATION WITH THE DANISH
ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY ON REDUCTION,
REUSE AND RECYCLING OF PLASTICS

In connection with our packaging initiatives, in 2021
we have signed up to the plastics collaboration between
the Ministry of the Environment and the retail sector.
The purpose of this sector collaboration is to realise the
potential for much more reuse and recycling of plastic
packaging from the retail sector at large, through active
participation and collaboration in the value chain.

The goal is that there is an overall 30 per cent recycled
plastic in relevant packaging, and that the retail sector's
total plastic consumption is greatly reduced by 2025.
At Schou, we have internal goals that support the retail
sector's journey towards more climate-friendly packaging solutions.

Packaging

At Schou, we have worked for many years to use as little product packaging as possible, and we are actively working to
reducing packaging product by product. We always keep an eye on protecting the climate and the environment as much as possible.

In some cases, packaging is reduced, in other cases it can be eliminated altogether. In addition, we are working to increase the use of recycled materials, especially plastic packaging, and in the coming year we will work much more on designing packaging so that it is easy to recycle.

OUR NEW CONSTRUCTION IS GOING GREENER

In Schou, we have a plan to be C02 neutral in the activities that we can control ourselves, such as emissions from purchased energy and company cars, etc. before the end of 2028. Our calculations for CO2 are done according to recognized definitions and methods in the Green House Gas Protocol.
